About

What is Sustainable NZ?

Sustainable NZ is a blog that seeks to explore the  impacts of consumption and population growth on the long term sustainability, quality of life and natural environment of New Zealand and the World.

This blog is intended to inform, provide resources and promote discussion of environmental sustainability and quality of life issues relating to consumption and population growth.

Rationale

Over-consumption and unsustainable lifestyles are resulting in environmental and social damage both globally and in New Zealand. However, continued population growth only serves to exacerbate such damage.
In New Zealand there is limited discussion about the negative impacts of continued population growth and a number of influential groups and individuals view continued growth as having only positive outcomes.
There is therefore a need to promote an understanding, in New Zealand, of the impacts that continuing population growth will have on the environment, economy, and quality of life of future generations.

Aims and Values

  • To promote an understanding of the impacts that continuing population growth and over-consumption will have on the environment, economy, and quality of life of future generations.
  • To motivate New Zealanders to take actions that will result in a stable and sustainable population for both New Zealand and the World.
  • To centre the discussion and debate on long-term sustainability and quality of life for future generations and to do so in a constructive manner.
  • To affirm the intrinsic value of each human life. To support human rights and to oppose all discrimination or coercion.
